Scaffold tubes and fittings

1. Scaffold Tubes

  • Steel scaffold tube (galvanised, BS EN 39 or EN 10219)
  • 48.3mm outside diameter (OD), 4mm wall thickness
  • Standard lengths (21ft / 6.4m down to 5ft / 1.5m, sometimes cut to order)
  • Aluminium scaffold tube (lighter but less common in heavy-duty work)

2. Scaffold Fittings (Couplers & Clamps)

  • All conforming to BS EN 74 standards.
  • Right-angle (double) couplers – for 90° connections
  • Swivel couplers – for angled/bracing connections
  • Sleeve couplers – for joining tubes end-to-end
  • Board retaining couplers (also called limpet clamps) – secure boards to transoms
  • Putlog couplers (single couplers) – connect ledgers/transoms
  • Gravlock girder couplers – to fix tubes to steel beams
  • Toe board clips – to secure toe boards
  • Ladder clamps – for ladder access fixing

  • Laminated / plastic composite boards (sometimes used for longer life)

2. Base & Foundation Components

  • Base plates – spread load at ground level
  • Adjustable base jacks / screw jacks – level on uneven ground
  • U-head jacks – for supporting beams/formwork

3. Access & Safety Components

  • Ladders (steel or aluminium, to BS EN 131)
  • Ladder access gates (swing gates for platforms)
